Designed for absolutely any runner to complete, the Mighty Deerstalker is a turbo-charged roller-coaster of a run. From the impressive grounds of Tranquair House - Scotland’s oldest continuously inhabited castle - you’ll first run a 5k loop taking in perilously-steep ascents, forest trails and waist-deep water crossings, with plenty of obstacles to test your resolve including hay bale walls and wooden climbing frames.

Going back through the start point, you’ll strap on a head torch (it’ll start to get dark around now) and do another, tougher 5k loop with rock and scree to scramble over as well as grueling climbs (and exhilarating descents) to tackle. As the lead runner reaches the highest point, he or she will light the homecoming firework, followed by all manner of bangs and whizzes from a spectacular show as racers make their way back to the finish. Done either solo or in teams, the real emphasis is on fun – with a finishing party worth savouring.
